Local Area
Whether you are walking, cycling or just enjoying the peaceful countryside, Caldbeck village has much to offer. The village also sits on the Cumbria Way footpath from Ulverston to Carlisle and is an ideal place to rest up for the night. Walks of varying levels are available from our doorstep, whether it is a gentle stroll around the village or a more strenuous climb such as High Pike in the Caldbeck Fells. Perhaps you may choose a full days outing taking the morning bus to Keswick and walking back over the fells (part of the Cumbrian Way). Caldbeck is centrally located to enjoy many areas of interest and tourist attractions in the Lake District, the Solway Coast, Eden Valley or the Scottish Borders all within easy reach. Or if you fancy a shopping trip why not try the Border city of Carlisle, which is only 20minutes away by car.
The Oddfellows Arms is a short stroll away which offers excellent pub food. Also, within easy reach in the neighbouring village of Hesket Newmarket is the Old Crown Inn famous for it’s locally brewed real ales and the first pub in the UK to be owned by a cooperative of people from the local community. This is an excellent traditional pub and a lovely evening walk by the river or quiet country roads (1.5 miles). If we are available we will be more than happy to taxi you home.
The village has two cafes, one of which is a converted watermill by the river in the centre of the village. Both cafes are open seven days a week for light lunches and snacks. For those of you who like to relax watching a game of cricket or bowls these are both to be found within the village. Alternatively a tennis court is available at a minimal cost if you are feeling active.
